Guatapé and the rock of El Peñol are the classic day trip east of Medellín. A handful of tours add a tandem flight to that day. They are a different product from the half-day flights at San Félix: eight to ten hours on the road, a launch somewhere along the way, and the flight as one stop among several. One more booking is for people who already sleep in Guatapé and want a flight from there.

Guatapé trips with a flight, side by side

Sorted by number of reviews. The launch column matters here: none of these flights starts at San Félix, and two listings do not say where they take off.

Three launches, none of them San Félix

Ecoventure flies from Cocorná and combines the flight with the town on its eight-hour group tour. MedellinDayTrips stops for the flight about halfway between Medellín and Guatapé on its private nine-hour day. Andes Adventure Travels lists a stop in Cocorná for the flight in the itinerary of its ten-hour private tour but gives no flight length, so ask before you book if that matters to you. The facts that apply at San Félix, such as the steps up to the launch, the weight limits listed there and the wind pattern described by APPI, do not carry over to these sites.

Starting in Guatapé instead of Medellín

Ecoventure’s Guacaica flight is the one booking here that begins in Guatapé. Transport leaves from the town, the outing takes three hours, and the flight over the Guacaica canyon lasts 10 to 15 minutes. It suits a night or two in Guatapé better than a day trip from the city. The listing is new and has no reviews yet; the weight limit is 120 kg, as on Ecoventure’s Cocorná flight.

Group tour or private car

The Ecoventure day from Medellín is a shared tour. MedellinDayTrips and Andes Adventure Travels run private days with their own driver, which makes the timing more flexible: one traveller writes that the guide helped arrange the flight as a surprise for a partner and adapted the meals to a vegan diet. On a private day you can also decide how long to stay at El Peñol. The entrance for the climb up the rock is not part of the MedellinDayTrips package, so keep some money for it.

A combined day depends on the weather twice: the flight needs suitable wind at its launch, the views from El Peñol need clear sky. Ecoventure promises a full refund for its Cocorná day if the weather stops the flight. For the other trips, read the weather rule on the booking page before you choose a date.

A flight in town, Guatapé on another day

If your main interest is the flight, a morning at San Félix and a separate Guatapé trip on another day give you more time for both. The flights from San Félix leave from the north-west of the city and are back by early afternoon. All of them are in the San Félix comparison. And if you would rather spend a quieter day in the hills around Medellín, our sister site compares coffee farm tours near Medellín.

Travellers on their day out

All three reviews praise the guide more than the flight, which fits a day where paragliding is one stop among several. When we checked on 10 October 2026, these tours had no reviews below four stars.

“This tour was amazing !!!! Our tour guide Julian was absolutely amazing and made this experience even better!!! Full day of unique experiences and wonderful sight seeing. …”
